As an avid consumer, my values are constantly clashing with my consumerism. Ultimately I’d like to curb my shopping addiction. In the meantime though, a new app, Good On You, is here to help shoppers make informed decisions before they splurge on a new wardrobe.
Good On You is an Australian fashion app to help you become aware of the sourcing of your purchases.
Assessing over 3000 fashion brands available to Australian consumers, Good On You assigns each brand an ethical rating based on animal welfare, labour protection and environmental impact.
Default settings allow users to quickly and easily assess the overall impact their purchase has as on the world. Additionally, users have the option to refine their search and display ratings based on their own values by tweaking the importance of each category.
According to Gordon Renouf (CEO) the idea behind Good on You is to “translate everyday shoppers’ desire for a better world into real incentives for brands to address the issues their customers care about.”
Despite my unsurprising disappointment that H&M didn't rate particularly well for my values setting, Good On You is a simple and beautifully designed app, that helped me to make my own choices and discover unique brands that share my values.
Crowd funded in July last year, Good On You is now available free on the Australian iOS AppStore.
