How to Avoid Wasteful Fashion Purchases
We’ve all been there: minding our business and getting errands done, when all of a sudden a beautiful and enticing object catches our eye. We weren’t supposed to stop into our favourite high-street shop, and we don’t really need a new metallic bomber jacket, but sometimes our stylish cravings just can’t resist.
In an effort to be kinder to the planet by reducing our consumption, I’ve found that asking myself these four questions before pulling the trigger on an unplanned purchase do wonders to avoid making these potentially wasteful purchases. It’s a simple, easy way to be a more thoughtful and conscious consumer. Give it a try!
1. Do I absolutely love this garment, and does it make me feel amazing?
If the answer here is no, put the item back on the shelf. Why would you want to wear something that doesn’t make you feel awesome?
2. Can I see myself wearing this in 1,2,4 years time?
No garment should be thought of as disposable, no matter where it’s from. Make sure you love the item so much that you will want to wear it for years to come, no matter what trends dictate.
3. Does it reflect my personality & lifestyle?
An unrealistic purchase will end up unused in the back of your closet. Think of how and where you wear your clothes and if this piece will stand up to the task.
4. Can I make at least 3 outfits with this piece?
Although a garment may be so well priced or so outstanding, if it doesn't jive with anything in your wardrobe, what's the point?
